The Marshall of Hayward
In the recent Academy Award-nominated movie, The Theory of Everything, the brilliant Steven Hawking studied at the very prestigious Cambridge University in England.
Well, the Hayward Education Foundation has its own brilliant Cambridge grad in Marshall Mitzmann, holder of both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Marketing from Hawking’s alma mater.
That, perhaps, is how he’s able to juggle his time and well-intentioned efforts to be part of so many philanthropic local organizations.
This man is busy! Besides H.E.F., he is President of the Hayward Salvation Army Council, Board Member of the Alameda County Salvation Army, Board Member of the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club, past member of the H.A.R.D. Citizens’ Advisory board, and Vice President of the Alameda County School Board Association. Besides all that, he’s an elected member of the Chabot College Board of Trustees.
In addition, he’s been an active member of Hayward Kiwanis since 1975, and he works full-time too. His company, Fingerprint Services of America, is the place to go for anyone needing official fingerprints to qualify for a job, or even to help out in the schools.
When he’s not inking fingers, however, this is a man with a huge heart. The organizations he belongs to are all dedicated to worthy causes involving community service and education. The Salvation Army helps the poor. Boys and Girls Clubs help youth. Chabot helps those students who can’t afford a four year school get started in college.
And now he’s joined the Board of the Hayward Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that gives grants to teachers with creative ideas—the kind of lessons and projects that students remember for the rest of their lives. With all the organizations he belongs to, H.E.F. is hoping that his myriad professional contacts will be a blessing to raise continued funds for the teacher grant program that has given out nearly a million dollars over the past 30 years.
Marshall Mitzmann is an active and optimistic leader in the Hayward community. He sees student success, as well as the improved handling of the Hayward homeless population, as his goals for taking such a dynamic role. The Hayward Education Foundation is delighted to have his educated and empathetic assistance.
